About Hearty Talk

You are high-achieving. You are also grieving. And somewhere in the gap between those two things, between the life you are still building and the loss you are carrying, you are beginning to notice that the strategies that have driven everything you have accomplished are not working on this.
Grief does not respond to effort. It does not respect your timeline, your productivity system, or your
professional identity. And the advice designed for the general population; feel your feelings, give it time, be gentle with yourself, lands without traction for someone whose entire adult life has been built on precision, performance, and purposeful action.

Hearty Talk was built for you. Not as an afterthought. As the entire point

It was also built for the Christian navigating loss who needs both the anchor of faith and the clarity
of science. And for anyone, of any background, who is ready to move from surviving grief to building a life that holds what has been lost alongside what is still possible.
Whoever you are, you are welcome here.

Who Founded This Site
Hearty Talk was founded by Dr Ezi Az’Fredrick, with a PhD in psychology, an academic, a grief coach, and someone who has walked through profound personal loss and emerged fully recovered.

Dr. Ezi holds a PhD in Psychology and is a Chartered Member of the British Psychological Society
Society. Her academic career spans over a decade at a leading higher education institution, where
She has taught the Psychology of Human Development across the Lifespan — the branch of
Psychological science is most directly relevant to loss, identity, transition, and recovery at every stage
of human life.

She has supervised undergraduate and postgraduate psychology students, guiding their
academic research and academic development at the most intellectually demanding stages of
their training. She has mentored newly appointed tutors, shaping how the next generation of
tutors are equipped to engage with human distress and resilience.

This is not a wellness platform built solely on lived experience. Nor is it a purely academic resource
disconnected from the reality of what loss actually feels like. It is both, and the combination is
precisely what makes it different.

Three Foundations, One Platform
HearyTalk rests on three foundations that rarely appear together:
Scholarly depth. Over a decade of research-informed, peer-reviewed engagement with the
psychology of human development. Every post on this site is grounded in the
psychological literature written with the rigour of a trained researcher and translated into
language that serves the reader rather than impressing them.
Lived experience. Dr. Ezi has personally navigated a profound grief the kind that does not
respond to knowledge or determination, that demands to be met on its own terms. She emerged
from that experience fully recovered. That journey is not the authority on which HearyTalk stands.
But it is the reason it exists, and it is present in every word written here.
Personal faith. Dr Ezi is a Christian, and her faith has been a significant part of her own
recovery, a source of meaning, resilience, and enduring hope in the most difficult seasons of her
life. She does not assume that faith is part of every reader’s framework, and she will never push it
on anyone who has not asked. But for those who are navigating grief within a faith context and wondering how science and faith speak to each other on this particular road, you will find that
conversation here.

Work With Dr. Ezi
Beyond the content on this site, Dr Ezi offers direct support through two structured programmes:
Group Coaching Programme: A structured, supportive group coaching experience for high
achievers, professionals, and individuals navigating significant loss. Combining psychological
frameworks, evidence-based recovery strategies, and the particular kind of honesty that only a
community of people who truly understand each other can create. Details and enrolment are available
on the Work With Me page.

Online Course A self-paced online programme built on the same research-grounded, high-achiever-focused content that underlies HearyTalk — structured for people who need depth, flexibility, and a
clear forward path. Details available on the Work With Me page.
Both programmes welcome participants of all backgrounds, high achievers, professionals, and anyone ready to move forward from grief to growth.

An Important Note
HearyTalk is an educational platform providing research-informed content on grief and recovery.
Dr. Ezi is a research psychologist, academic, and grief coach — not a therapist or clinician. The
content on this site and the coaching programmes offered are intended to inform, support, and
guide. They are not a replacement for professional therapeutic or clinical support. If your grief is
significantly affecting your daily functioning, we encourage you to seek support from a qualified
mental health professional alongside the resources available here.

Our Purpose
To be the grief resource that brings together everything that high achievers and professionals need and that no single platform currently provides. Rigorous science. Lived honestly. Faith held lightly and offered freely. Practical frameworks. And direct support, for those who are ready for it.
No rush. No rules about how you should grieve or how long it should take. Just clear, research-grounded guidance and the conviction that the path to recovery is available to you.

A Word from Dr. Ezi
I know what it is to hold a room with authority while privately carrying something you cannot
name. To understand grief academically, to have taught its psychology, studied its models, guided
others in researching its mechanisms and to still find, when it arrived in my own life, that
intellectual knowledge and lived experience are not the same thing

I also know what it is to find, in the middle of that, that faith is not a shortcut around grief. It is a
companion through it. One that holds when nothing else does by making it possible to bear pain without being destroyed by it.

And I know that recovery is real. Not the management of grief into a more convenient form. Not the
performance of having moved on. Real recovery where the loss is integrated, where the story
makes sense again, where you are building a life that carries both what you have lost and what is
still possible. That is what this site, and everything I offer through it, is working toward.

With deep respect and genuine care,
Dr Ezi Az’Fredrick, PhD, Chartered Member, British Psychological Society, Grief Coach
